Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is a manner of honoring the Holy Eucharist, exposed in a monstrance, with proper solemnity, to the view of the faithful for worship and devotion. Saint James Parish is blessed with the opportunity to adore the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday in the chapel from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Whether you recite your favorite prayers, read the Bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope, charity or thanksgiving, pray a rosary, or just sit and say nothing, simply keeping Him company, just as you would a dear friend, Jesus loves to spend time with you.

To insure that there is always someone in the chapel during these hours, parishioners are invited to commit to 30 minutes or an hour per week to spend in adoration and meditation, keeping peaceful, prayerful watch in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. If your schedule cannot accommodate a visit at the same time each week, you are welcome to drop in when you can and stay for as long as you are able. It is customary to bow and kneel on both knees, if one is physically able, upon entering and exiting the chapel when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed to show respect, reverence and honor.

The mode of Christ’s presence under the Eucharistic species is unique. It raises the Eucharist above all the sacraments as “the perfection of the spiritual life and the end to which all sacraments tend.” In the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist “the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained.” “This presence is called ‘real’ - by which is not intended to exclude the other types of presence as if they could not be ‘real’ too, but because it is presence in the fullest sense: that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, God and man, makes himself wholly and entirely present.”  -- The Catechism of the Catholic Church: paragraph 1374
